IPL 2015: MI V RR

Sorry for not writing day before yesterday. Yesterday’s second match was an exciting match. The match was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mumbai Indians innings had a good start. Samson dropped Simmons at the early stages of Mumbai Indians innings when Simmons was on 0 runs. It was a costly miss as Simmons went on to score 38 runs. The 43 run-stand between Simmons & Parthiv Patel in 29 balls tried to pace the Rajasthan bowlers. They lost Parthiv Patel early in 5th over of the innings. Simmons scored a brisk 38 off 31 balls & tried to batter the Rajasthan bowlers. Mumbai Indians innings was quickly at 73 for 1 in 9 overs. The 30 run-stand between Simmons & Chand in 26 balls was not very important. They lost 2 wickets Simmons & Chand in quick succession. The 36 run-stand between Rohit Sharma & Rayudu in 25 balls was much responsible for Mumbai Indians innings. They lost Rohit Sharma in 15th over of the innings. Rayudu scored a huge 53 off 27 balls & attacked the Rajasthan bowlers. This was the highest score in Mumbai Indians innings. This was Rayudu’s highest score in IPL 2015 till day before yesterday beating 37 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad also at Mumbai on April 25. Mumbai Indians innings was comfortably placed at 181 for 4 in 19.3 overs. The 61 run-stand between Rayudu & Pollard in 29 balls increased the run-rate. This was the highest partnership in Mumbai Indians innings. This was four 30+ partnership in five wickets in the innings & happened 4th time in IPL history. They lost Pollard in 20th over of the innings. They started quick in first 10 overs & were very quick in later overs. Rajasthan Royals bowlers were wayward & indisciplined in last 4 over of  the innings. They gave away 61 runs at the rate of 15 runs per over. It was too much. Mumbai Indians innings final total was 187 for 5 in 20 overs. This was Mumbai’s 2nd highest total in IPL 2015 till  day before yesterday behind 209 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bangalore on April 19.

Rajasthan Royals innings also had a good start. Suchith dropped Rahane at the very early stages of Rajasthan Royals innings when Rahane was on 6 runs. It was a bit costly miss as Rahane went on to score 16 runs. The 30 run-stand between Rahane & Watson in 19 balls was not crucial. They lost Rahane early in 4th over of the innings. Rajasthan Royals innings was boom boom at 71 for 1 in 8 overs. The 41 run-stand between Watson & Samson in 30 balls tried to crush Mumbai bowlers. They  lost Watson in 9th over of the innings. Parthiv appealed for a caught behind for Samson in Rajasthan Royals innings but the appeal was turned down & Samson survived. Rajasthan Royals innings was comfortably placed at 127 for 2 in 14.5 overs. The 56 run-stand between Samson & Steven Smith in 41 balls was too much responsible for Rajasthan Royals innings. This was the highest partnership in Rajasthan Royals innings. They lost Steven Smith in 15th over of the innings. Samson scored a brilliant 76 off 46 balls & hammered the Mumbai bowlers. This was the highest score in Rajasthan innings. This was Samson’s highest score of his IPL career beating 74 runs also against Mumbai Indians also at Mumbai last year. The 34 run-stand between Samson & Nair in 16 balls was very important. They lost last 4 wickets for 16 runs in the span of 2.1 overs & the situation changed. They started very quick in first 10 overs & also very quick in later overs. McClenaghan took 3 wickets for 31 runs & Mumbai won comfortably. Rajasthan Royals innings final total was 179 for 7 in 20 overs. Vinay Kumar bowled the winning ball. This was Rajasthan’s 2nd highest total against Mumbai Indians at this ground behind 189 runs in 2014. Mumbai won the match by 8 runs. This was Mumbai’s 2nd consecutive win & happened first time in IPL 2015.

Now, Mumbai Indians will face Kings XI Punjab at PCA Stadium on 3rd May. Rajasthan Royals will face Delhi Daredevils at Brabourne Stadium also on 3rd May.

At another front Bangladesh gave a solid reply to Pakistan’s mammoth total of 628 runs. Tamim Iqbal & Imrul Kayes created a 300+ run opening pair partnership which is a record for Bangladesh. Iqbal went on to score 206 runs. The second Bangladeshi to score a double-ton in Test history after Mohammad Ashraful. Bangladesh drew the test against Pakistan  for the first time in Test history. Bravo Bangladesh.
