IPL 2016: KXIP V MI

Yesterday’s match was an interesting match. The match was played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mumbai start was a worst. They lost Rohit Sharma early in second ball of the innings. Rohit Sharma was caught by Nikhil Naik of Sandeep Sharma’s 1st over. Rayudu was dropped by Axar Patel of Pradeep Sahu’s bowling as when he was on 33 runs. It was a costly miss as he went on to score 32 more runs. Parthiv Patel was caught by David Miller of Johnson’s bowling but umpire signaled as no-ball when he was on 15 runs. He was stumped by Nikhil Naik of Sandeep Sharma’s bowling but it was closing to taking a wicket when he was on 32 runs.  Mumbai was comfortably placed at 137 for 1 in 14.2 overs. Rayudu scored a fine 65 off 37 balls destroyed the Punjab bowlers. This was his 2nd fifty of the season and overall 13th fifty of his IPL career. The 137-run stand between Parthiv Patel and Rayudu in 85 balls was the highest. This was the highest 2nd wicket partnership for Mumbai in IPL matches. They lost Rayudu in 15th over of the innings. Rayudu was caught by Manan Vohra of Axar Patel’s bowling. Parthiv Patel  was also dropped by Axar Patel of Mohit Sharma’s bowling when he was on 66 runs. It was not a costly miss as he went on to score 15 more runs. Buttler scored a quickfire 24 off 13 balls against Punjab bowling. Mumbai was also comfortably placed 174 for 2 in 17.4 overs.  The 37-run stand between Parthiv Patel and Buttler in 20 balls increased the run-rate. They lost Buttler in penultimate ball of 18th over of the innings. Buttler was bowled by Mohit Sharma. Parthiv Patel scored a brilliant 81 off 58 balls hammered the Punjab bowlers. This was his 1st fifty of the season and overall 7th fifty of his IPL career. This was his highest score in IPL career but his previous best was 61 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kings XI Punjab at same venue in 2013. Four of his five highest scores against Kings XI Punjab. This was the highest score by batsmen in this innings. They lost Patel in next over. They lost last 4 wickets for 15 runs in the span of 2.2 overs and Punjab made a comeback. They lost 2 wickets for 7 runs in last over. Mumbai posted a competitive total of 189 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Mohit Sharma was the most successful bowler for Punjab when he took 3 wickets including 2 wickets in last over.

Punjab start was a not good. They lost 2 wickets for 32 runs in the span of 4.5 overs. Punjab was comfortably placed at 121 for 2 in 14.5 overs and it looked Punjab will win the match. Shaun Marsh scored a classy 45 off 34 balls shattered against Mumbai bowling. Maxwell was fail to catch by Harbhajan Singh of Southee’s bowling. The 89-run stand between Shaun Marsh and Maxwell in 61 balls was the highest. They lost Shaun Marsh in last ball of 15th over of the innings. Shaun Marsh was caught by Rayudu of Southee’s bowling. Maxwell scored a gigantic 56 off 39 balls attacked the Mumbai bowlers. This was his first fifty of the season and overall 5th fifty of his IPL career. This was his first IPL fifty since 2014. This was the highest score by batsman in this innings. Maxwell was bowled by Bumrah.  They lost 2 wickets in 18th over of the innings. They lost 2 wickets again in next over. It was a turning point as they lost 5 wickets for 30 runs in the span of 4.1 overs and Mumbai made a comeback. Bumrah bowled a final ball and Mumbai won comfortably. David Miller scored 30 off 17 balls remained unbeaten. Bumrah was the most successful bowler for Mumbai when he took 3 wickets including 2 wickets in 18th over. Mumbai won the match by 25 runs. This was Mumbai’s 3rd win in IPL 2016.

Now, Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28. Kings XI Punjab will also face Gujarat Lions on May 1.
