IPL 2016: MI V KKR

Yesterday’s match was a high-scoring match. The match was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kolkata start was a good. Gambhir was dropped by McClenaghan in early stages of the innings when he was on 8 runs. It was a costly miss as he went on to score 51 more runs. Uthappa was missed run-out by a throw of Parthiv Patel when he was on 35 runs. It was not a costly miss as he went on the score 1 more run. The 69-run stand between Uthappa and Gambhir in 46 balls was the highest. Uthappa scored a gutsy 36 off 20 balls shattered against Mumbai bowling. They lost Uthappa in 8th over of the innings. Uthappa was caught by Pollard of Harbhajan Singh’s bowling. They lost Shakib Al Hasan in next over. Shakib Al Hasan was caught by Parthiv Patel of Hardik Pandya’s 1st over.  Kolkata was comfortably placed at 121 for 2 in 13.4 overs. Gambhir scored a fine 59 off 45 balls destroyed the Mumbai bowlers. This was his 3rd fifty of the season and overall 29th fifty of his IPL career most by any batsman. This was the highest score by any batsman in this innings. The 44-run stand between Gambhir and  Suryakumar Yadav in 24 balls increased the run-rate. Gambhir was also caught by Pollard of McClenaghan’s bowling. They lost 3 wickets for 24 runs in the span of 3.4 overs and Mumbai made a comeback. Kolkata was reduced to 145 for 5 in 17.2 overs. Lynn was dropped by Southee when he was on 2 runs. It was not a costly moss as he went on to score 8 more runs. Yusuf Pathan was also dropped by Southee on next ball when he was on 10 runs. It was not a costly miss as he went on to score 9 more runs. The 29-run stand between Lynn and Yusuf Pathan in 16 balls remained unbeaten. Kolkata posted a competitive total of 174 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Southee was the most successful bowler for Mumbai when he took 2 wickets including Suryakumar Yadav and Russell.

Mumbai start was not good. They lost Parthiv Patel in first ball of 2nd over of the innings. Parthiv Patel was caught by Yusuf Pathan of Umesh Yadav’s first over. Mumbai was comfortably placed at 67 for 1 in 6.4 overs. The 59-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Rayudu in 34 balls increased the run-rate. Rayudu scored a classy 32 off 20 balls against Mumbai bowling. They lost 2 more wickets for 11 runs in the span of 2.2 overs and Kolkata made a comeback. They lost Buttler in last ball of 13th over of the innings. Buttler was caught by Lynn backward catch of Narine’s bowling. Mumbai was reduced to 106 for 4 in 13 overs. Pollard hit 2 sixes of Unadkat’s 15th over. Mumbai total was 126 for 4 in 15 overs. He also hit 3 sixes of Rajagopal Sathish’s 16th over. He hit 3 sixes again of Rajagopal’s Sathish 18th over. Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 68 off 49 balls hammered the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 4th fifty of the season in chases and overall 24th fifty of his IPL career. This was the highest score by any batsman in this innings. Pollard scored a quickfire 51 off 17 balls attacked the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 1st fifty of the season and overall 6th fifty of his IPL career. This was his fastest fifty by any batsman for Mumbai the previous fastest was Harbhajan Singh’s 19-ball fifty against Kings XI Punjab at same venue last year. THe 72-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Pollard in 30 balls was the highest and remained unbeaten. Pollard hit the winning six and Mumbai won comfortably. Mumbai won the match by 6 wickets. Mumbai signed off the Wankhede with a win. This was Mumbai’s 4th win in IPL 2016.

Now, Mumbai Indians will face Rising Pune Supergiants on May 1. Kolkata Knight Riders will also take on Delhi Daredevils on April 30.
