Yesterday’s match was an interesting match. The match was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. This was Hyderabad’s last home match of the season followed by 3 back-to-back away games.
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and chose to bowl first. Hyderabad start was good. Jayant Yadav gave the ball plenty of air in 3 powerplay overs. Warner hit 2 fours off Jayant Yadav’s 2nd over. Warner scored a fine 46 off 30 balls and destroyed the Delhi bowling. This was the highest score by batsman in this match. The 67-run stand between Warner and Shikhar Dhawan in 53 balls was the highest. They lost Warner in penultimate ball of 19th over of the innings. Warner was bowled by Jayant Yadav in his 2nd over. Amit Mishra introduced the attack in 11th over of the innings. Hyderabad was comfortably placed at 98 for 1 in 12.5 overs and it looked Hyderabad will cross 150-run mark. Shikhar Dhawan scored a classy 34 off 37 balls and paced the Hyderabad innings. The 31-run stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Williamson in 25 balls increased the run-rate. Shikhar Dhawan was caught by Sanju Samson off Amit Mishra’s 2nd over. They lost 3 more wickets for 16 runs in the span of 2.3 overs and Delhi made a comeback. Hyderabad was reduced to 114 for 4 in 15.2 overs. Hyderabad was also comfortably placed at 135 for 4 in 17.4 overs and it also looked Hyderabad will also cross 150-run mark. Williamson was bowled by Chris Morris in his last over. It was a turning point as they lost last 4 wickets for 8 runs in the span of 2.1 overs including 2 wickets in 19th over of the innings and Delhi also made a comeback. Hyderabad was also reduced to 143 for 8 in 19.5 overs. Nehra was caught and bowled by Coulter-Nile in his final over but umpire signaled as no-ball. Hyderabad posted not a competitive total of 146 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Hyderabad scored 48 runs in the last 7 overs. This was the third lowest total for Hyderabad at this ground in this season behind 118 runs against Rising Pune Supergiants and 142 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Amit Mishra and Coulter-Nile took 2 wickets each for Delhi.
Delhi start was not good. Mayank Agarwal began brightly with mid-on four. They lost Mayank Agarwal early in first ball of 4th over of the innings. Mayank Agarwal was caught by Yuvraj Singh off Nehra’s 2nd over. de Kock looked in deep control when he was out caught behind and umpire after a prolonged appeal but signaled as not out. de Kock’s helmet fell down the ground as he completed the stroke, the Ultra Edge no bat was allowed. de Kock hit 2 consecutive fours off Nehra’s same over. He cutting the four off Mustafizur Rahman’s 1st over. Delhi closed powerplay at 50 for 1 in 6 overs. Delhi was comfortably placed at 75 for 1 in 9.1 overs and it looked Delhi will win the match. The 55-run stand between de Kock and Karun Nair in 37 balls increased the run-rate. de Kock scored a brilliant 44 off 31 balls and hammered the Hyderabad bowling. This was his fourth highest score in chases in this season. Four of his five highest score in chases in IPL career but all of them are winning. de Kock was caught by Naman Ojha off Henriques’s 1st over. They lost 2 more wickets for 3 runs in the span of 4 balls and it looked Hyderabad will make a comeback. Delhi was reduced to 78 for 3 in 9.5 overs. Rishabh Pant hit a six and four off Mustafizur Rahman’s 2nd over. Samson hit a boundary off Mustafizur Rahman’s next over. Rishabh Pant scored quickfire 39 off 26 balls and attacked the Hyderabad bowling. Samson scored a gutsy 34 off 26 balls and smashed the Hyderabad bowling. Rishabh Pant plundered 26 runs from Mustafizur Rahman in 13 balls. The 72-run stand between Samson and Rishabh Pant in 50 balls was the highest and remained unbeaten. This was the 4th wicket partnership for Delhi in this season. Samson hit the winning six and Delhi won comfortably. Henriques was the most successful bowler for Hyderabad when he took 2 wickets including in 10th over of the innings. Delhi won the match by 7 wickets. This was Delhi’s 6th win in IPL 2016. This was Hyderabad’s 1st loss after 4 consecutive wins.
Now, Delhi Daredevils will face Mumbai Indians on May 15. Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab also on May 15.
