Yesterday’s match was an interesting match. The match was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This was the first match at this ground since April 13.

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl first. Kolkata start was good. Gambhir hit 2 fours off Stoinis 3rd over. Uthappa came forward on length of delivery off Mohit Sharma’s 4th over. They scored fifties each in 101-run opening stand. Gambhir scored a fine 54 off 45 balls and destroyed the Punjab bowlers. This was his 4th fifty of the season and overall 30th fifty in his IPL career most by any batsman. The 101-run stand between Uthappa and Gambhir in 81 balls was the highest. This was the second highest 1st wicket partnership for Kolkata in IPL matches behind 121 runs by same pair against Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad in 2014. This was the most runs by a pair in IPL history. This was the 2nd century stand between Gambhir and Uthappa in IPL matches and first since 2014. They lost Gambhir in 14th over of the innings. Gambhir was run out by a direct throw by Maxwell and Sandeep Sharma. Uthappa dropped Mohit Sharma 3 times in middle stages of the innings when he was on 52 runs. It was a costly miss as he went on to score 18 more runs. Kolkata was comfortably placed at 137 for 1 in 16.4 overs. Uthappa scored a brilliant 70 off 49 balls and hammered the Punjab bowlers. This was his 3rd fifty of the season and overall 19th fifty of his IPL career. This was his second highest score of the season behind 72 runs against Delhi Daredevils at Delhi 4 days ago. This was the highest score by batsman in this match. The 36-run stand between Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan in 20 balls increased the run-rate. They lost Uthappa in penultimate ball of 17th over of the innings. Uthappa was run out by a direct throw by Mohit Sharma. They lost Russell in last ball of the innings. Russell was run out by a direct throw by Wriddhiman Saha and Sandeep Sharma. Kolkata score only 26 runs in the last 18 balls. Kolkata posted a competitive total of 164 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Mohit Sharma was the most expensive bowler for Punjab when he conceded 39 runs including a run out to Uthappa.

Punjab start was not good. They lost 3 wickets for 13 runs in the span of 3.1 overs and Kolkata made a comeback. Punjab was weakly placed at 53 for 3 in 8.5 overs. Maxwell scored a quickfire 68 off 42 balls and attacked the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 2nd fifty of the season and overall 6th fifty in his IPL career. This was his highest score of the season but previous highest was 56 runs against Mumbai Indians at Mohali last week. This was the highest score by batsman in this innings. The 67-run stand between Maxwell and David Miller in 40 balls was the highest. They lost Maxwell in 16th over of the innings. Maxwell was out LBW by Piyush Chawla. It was the turning point as they lost 4 wickets for 26 runs in the span of 2.3 overs. Russell bowled the last ball and Kolkata won comfortably. Russell was the most successful bowler for Kolkata when he took 4 wickets. This was the second best bowling figures by pacer for Kolkata in IPL matches behind Balaji’s 4 wickets for 18 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bengaluru in 2012. Kolkata won the match by 7 runs. This was Kolkata’s 1st win by batting first in this season. This was Kolkata’s 6th win in IPL 2016.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first. Bangalore start was not good. The lost Gayle early in 2nd over of the innings. Gayle was caught by Uthappa off Morne Morkel’s 1st over. KL Rahul hit 2 fours and a six off Narine’s 2nd over. Bangalore was comfortably placed at 92 for 1 in 11 overs. KL Rahul scored a fine 52 off 32 balls and destroyed the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 3rd consecutive fifty of the season and overall 3rd fifty in his IPL career. This was his highest score in IPL but previous best was 51 not out against Gujarat Lions  at Rajkot earlier this season. This was his joint highest score by batsman in this innings along with Kohli. The 84-run stand between KL Rahul and Kohli in 58 balls was the highest. KL Rahul was caught by Yusuf Pathan off Piyush Chawla’s bowling. They lost 2 more wickets for 17 runs in the span of 2.4 overs and Kolkata made a comeback. Kohli was dropped by Gambhir in middle stages of the innings when he was on 50 runs. It was not a costly miss as he went on to score 2 more runs. Kohli scored a classy 52 off 44 balls and attacked the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 4th fifty of the season and overall 21st fifty of his IPL career. This was his joint highest score by batsman in this innings along with KL Rahul. They lost Kohli in 17th over of the innings. Kohli was caught by Russell off Morne Morkel’s last over. Bangalore was also comfortably placed at 167 for 4 in 18.5 overs. The 38-run stand between Watson and Sachin Baby in 14 balls increased the run-rate. They lost Sachin Baby in last ball of 19th over of the innings. Russell scored a quickfire 39 off 24 balls smashed Bangalore bowling. The 96-run stand between Yusuf Pathan and Russell in 44 balls was the highest and Kolkata snatched the game. They lost Russell in 18th over of the innings. Russell was caught by Stuart Binny off Chahal’s last over. This was the highest 5th wicket partnership for Kolkata in IPL matches. Yusuf Pathan scored a brilliant 60 off 29 balls hammered the Bangalore bowlers. This was his 1st fifty of the season and overall 13th fifty of his IPL career. Yusuf Pathan hit the winning six and Kolkata won comfortably. This was the highest successful chase for Kolkata in this season but previous highest was 162 runs against Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune. Chahal was the most successful bowler for Bangalore when he took 2 wickets. Kolkata won the match by 5 wickets. This was Kolkata’s 5th win in chases in IPL 2016.

This was Delhi’s 4th win in IPL 2016.

THe 72-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Pollard in 30 balls was the highest and remained unbeaten. Pollard hit the winning six and Mumbai won comfortably. Mumbai won the match by 6 wickets. Mumbai signed off the Wankhede with a win. This was Mumbai’s 4th win in IPL 2016.

Steven Smith was run out by a throw of Rajagopal Sathish. They lost 2 more wickets for 19 runs in the span of 2.4 overs. Thisara Perera was bowled by Rajagopal Sathish.  Rahane scored a fine 67 off 52 balls destroyed the Kolkata bowlers. This was his 3rd fifty of the season and overall 18th fifty of his IPL career. Kolkata won the match by 2 wickets. This was 2nd smallest victory by team in terms of wickets. This was Kolkata’s 4th win in IPL 2016.

Morkel was caught by Shakib Al Hasan to dismiss Vohra in 4th over of Punjab innings. Punjab was comfortably placed at 47 for 1 in 7.4 overs. The 26-run stand between Vijay and Shaun Marsh in 25 balls was the highest. They lost 3 wickets for 25 runs in the span of 4.3 overs. Punjab was also weakly placed at 94 for 4 in 14.4 overs. The 22-run stand between Shaun Marsh & Maxwell in 16 balls. They lost last 4 wickets for 24 runs in the span of 3.5 overs & Kolkata will make a comeback. The 20-run stand between Shaun Marsh & Kyle Abbott in 9 balls remained unbeaten. Shaun Marsh scored a fine 56 off 41 balls destroyed the Kolkata bowlers. Pradeep Sahu was dismissed by Gambhir & Uthappa to caught by Maxwell & adjudged lbw respectively. Pradeep Sahu playing his 4th competitive game since 2011. Axar Patel was dismissed by Manish Pandey & Shakib Al Hasan to bowled and caught by Sandeep Sharma respectively. He took 2 or more wickets for the first time in last 11 matches. Yusuf Pathan hit one six this season. He is still one short of 200 T20 sixes to become  4th Indian to complete this. Suryakumar Yadav hit the winning four and Kolkata won comfortably. Pradeep Sahu & Axar Patel took 2 wickets each for Punjab in Kolkata innings. Kolkata won the match by 6 wickets. This was Kolkata’s 3rd win in IPL 2016 & go to top of the table. This was also Kolkata’s 6th consecutive win against Punjab.

Hi! I am back. I was busy with my exams. Missed opening ceremony & initial 7 matches. I promise now onwards I will give you daily updates of IPL matches.

Yesterday’s first match was one-sided match. The match was played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bat first. Sunrisers Hyderabad innings started not on a good note. They lost 4 wickets for 50 runs in 9.4 overs. The 67-run stand between Morgan and Naman Ojha in 47 balls was crucial. Morgan scored a fine 51 off 43 balls.This was his first fifty of the season and overall 4th fifty in his IPL career. Naman Ojha scored a quick 37 off 28 balls. At that point, Sunrisers were  at 117 for 4 in 17.2 overs. They lost 3 quick wickets for 24 runs in span of 2.3 overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a not so competitive total of 142 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Umesh Yadav was the most successful bowler for Kolkata when he took 3 wickets for 28 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders  had a solid start. The 92 run-stand between Uthappa & Gambhir in 74 balls was excellent & looked Kolkata will win easily. Uthappa scored a classy 38 off 34 balls. He was adjudged LBW to Ashish Reddy. Russel was promoted to number 3 spot but failed to do much. We was grounded by a beautiful yorker by Mustafizur Rahman. KKR lost 2  quick wickets for 5 runs in the span of 1.2 overs. it looked SRH will make a comeback but Gambhir has some other idea. Gambhir scored a brilliant 90 off 60 balls and hammered the Hyderabad bowlers all around the park. This was his second fifty of the season and overall 28th fifty in his IPL career. But still looking for his 1st hundred in IPL or Twenty20. This was Gambhir’s second highest score in his IPL behind 93 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Kolkata in 2012. The 49-run stand in 28 balls between Gambhir and Manish Pandey sealed the fate of the game.  Both remained unbeaten. Gambhir hit the winning four & Kolkata won comfortably. SRH bowling was ordinary and only Mustafizur impressed.  Ashish Reddy & Mustafizur took one wicket a piece.  This was Kolkata’s second win in IPL 2016. Gambhir @ 192 runs, earned the Orange Cap.

Now, Kolkata Knight Riders will play  the next match against Kings XI Punjab on April 19 and Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Mumbai Indians on April 18.

Sorry for not writing yesterday. Yesterday’s match was again a thrilling match. The match was played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mumbai Indians innings had a solid start. Umesh Yadav dropped Parthiv Patel at very early stages of Mumbai Indians innings when Parthiv was on 17 runs. It was not a costly miss as Parthiv could score only 21 runs. They lost 3 wickets for 47 runs in the span of 6.3 overs. With the departure of three Mumbai Indians batsmen Mumbai Indians innings was reduced to 47 for 3 in 6.3 overs. Rohit Sharma scored a brisk 30 off 21 balls & tried to attack the Kolkata bowlers. The 32 run-stand between Rohit & Pollard in 31 balls tried to steady the Mumbai Indians innings. Pollard scored a fine 33 off 38 balls & tried to crush the Kolkata bowling attack. The 92 run-stand between Pollard & Pandya in 50 balls increased the run-rate. This was the highest partnership in Mumbai Indians innings. This was highest 4th wicket partnership for Mumbai Indians beating 84 runs between Tendulkar & Rayudu against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur in 2010. Pandya scored a quickfore 61 off 31 balls & destroyed the Kolkata bowlers. This was the highest score in Mumbai Indians innings. This was Pandya’s highest score of his IPL career beating 47 runs against Chennai Super Kings at Chennai this season. They started not very quick in first 10 overs & picked up speed in later overs. Shakib bowled a lethal spell & took 2 crucial wickets in the innings. Mumbai Indians innings final total was 171 for 4 in 20 overs. This was Mumbai’s 2nd highest total at this ground in IPL 2015 till yesterday behind 184 runs against Chennai Super Kings on April 17.

Kolkata Knight Riders innings had a good start. The 45 run-stand between Uthappa & Gambhir in 33 balls tried to pace the Kolkata Knight Riders innings. This was the highest partnership in Kolkata Knight Riders innings. They lost 2 wickets Uthappa & Pandey early in quick succession. Gambhir scored a brilliant 38 off 29 balls & tried to squeeze the Mumbai bowlers. Kolkata Knight Riders innings was comfortably placed 88 for 1 in 10.5 overs. The 42 run-stand between Gambhir & Yusuf Pathan in 31 balls was much responsible for Kolkata Knight Riders innings. The 30 run-stand between Yusuf Pathan & Shakib in 20 balls was not very important. This was two 40+ partnership in the innings & happened 3rd time in IPL history. They lost 4 wickets for 42 runs in the span of 5 overs & changed the situation. Yusuf Pathan scored a huge 52 off 37 balls & hammered the Mumbai bowlers. This was the highest score in Kolkata Knight Riders innings. This was Yusuf’s highest score in IPL 2015 till yesterday beating 45 runs against Delhi Daredevils at Kolkata on May 7. They started not very quick in first 10 overs & picked up speed in later overs. Pollard took a wicket to Yusuf Pathan in final over of the innings & Mumbai won comfortably. Kolkata Knight Riders innings final total was 166 for 7 in 20 overs. 21 needed off 2 overs Malinga conceded only 9 runs in 19th over. 12 needed in last over & also changed the situation. Pollard conceded only 6 runs & a wicket in last over of the innings. Pollard bowled the final ball. Mumbai won the match by 5 runs. This was Mumbai’s 7th win in IPL 2015.

Now, Mumbai Indians will face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on 17th May. Kolkata Knight Riders will face Rajasthan Royals at Brabourne Stadium on 16th May.

This was Uthappa’s 2nd highest score in IPL 2015 till yesterday behind 60 runs against Chennai Super Kings at Kolkata on April 30. Imran Tahir bowled a carrom ball & took 2 crucial wickets in the innings. Kolkata Knight Riders innings final total was 171 for 7 in 20 overs. This was Kolkata’s 2nd highest total at this ground in IPL 2015 till yesterday behind 177 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 11.

Delhi Daredevils innings also had a good start. Gambhir dropped Iyer at the middle stages of Delhi Daredevils innings when Iyer was on 33 runs. It was not a costly miss as Iyer could score only 40 runs. Delhi Daredevils innings was boom boom at 63 for 0 in 9.4 overs. The 63 run-stand between Manoj Tiwary & Shreyas Iyer in 59 balls tried to increase the run-rate. This was the highest partnership in Delhi Daredevils innings. Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant 40 off 35 balls & tried to attack the Kolkata bowlers. This was Shreyas Iyer’s equal 2nd highest score of his IPL career behind 83 runs against Mumbai Indians at Delhi & 40 runs against Rajasthan Royals also at Delhi this season. They lost 5 wickets for 48 runs in the span of 5.5 overs & the situation also changed after that. With the departure of top five Delhi Daredevils batsmen Delhi Daredevils innings was reduced to 111 for 5 in 15.3 overs. The 32 run-stand between Mathews & Saurabh Tiwary in 21 balls tried to pace the Delhi Daredevils innings fightback. They lost Mathews in 19th over of the innings. They started not very quick in first 10 overs & picked up speed in later overs. Piyush Chawla took 4 wickets for 32 run & Kolkata won comfortably. Delhi Daredevils innings final total was 158 for 6 in 20 overs. Umesh Yadav bowled the final ball. Kolkata won the match by 13 runs. This was Kolkata’s 2nd consecutive win & happened 2nd time in IPL 2015.

Now, Kolkata Knight Riders will face Kings XI Punjab also at Eden Gardens on 9th May. Delhi Daredevils will face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium also on 9th May.

At another place Pakistan first innings total was 557 for 8 declared. Azhar Ali went on to score 226 runs. This was Azhar Ali’s first double century in Test cricket. Younis Khan also went on to score 148 runs. Younis Khan’s purple patch continues since the series against Australia last year.  Asad Shafiq went on to score 107 runs. This was three Pakistan batsmen to score centuries in the innings & happened 4th time in Test history. The double century-stand between Younis Khan & Azhar Ali  was the highest. This was two double century-partnerships in Pakistan innings & happened first time in Test history. Bangladesh first innings total was 107 for 5. Pakistan pace duo took 2 wickets each in the innings.

They lost 4 wickets for 26 runs in the span of 6.1 overs & the situation changed after that. With the departure of next four SRH batsmen Sunrisers Hyderabad innings was  reduced to 81 for 7 in 14.1 overs. Henriques scored a fine 41 off 33 balls & tried to pace the Hyderabad innings. This was the highest score in Sunrisers innings. This was Henriques’ highest score of his IPL career beating 38 runs for Delhi Daredevils against Kings XI Punjab at Delhi in 2010. Sunrisers Hyderabad innings was weakly placed 117 for 7 in 17.4 overs. Karn Sharma scored a brilliant 32 off 20 balls & hammered the Kolkata bowlers. The 36 run-stand between Karn Sharma & Praveen Kumar in 22 balls was much responsible for Sunrisers Hyderabad innings fightback. but this was too little and too late. This was the highest partnership in Sunrisers Hyderabad innings. They lost last 2 wickets Karn Sharma & Praveen Kumar also in quick succession. They started not very quick in first 10 overs & slow in later overs. Hogg took 2 wickets for 17 runs & Kolkata won comfortably. Russell bowled the final ball. Kolkata won the match by 35 runs. This was Kolkata’s 5th win in IPL 2015.

Now, Kolkata Knight Riders will face Delhi Daredevils also at Eden Gardens on 7th May. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals at Brabourne Stadium also on 7th May.

At another place England second innings  was bowled out at 123 runs. Holder took 3 wickets for 15 runs. West Indies second innings final  total was 194 for 5. Darren Bravo went on to score 82 runs. West Indies won the third test by 5 wickets. The series was drawn at 1-1. Trott announced his retirement in International Cricket after the test series in Caribbean.
